Paintings add such an air of refinement and class to rooms, you only have to look at the stateley homes and assembly rooms dotted throughout the world to see a vast old painting above a roaring fireplace. Even a smaller piece can be captivating. Take the da Vinci's Mona Lisa for example, it's deceptively small yet who wouldn't want that hanging on their wall? Well, unfortunately you can't as it's priceless but you can have sightly cheaper alternatives.
Of course we don't mean a print from your local library, that just doesn't cut it. So, what would you buy if you had the money?
Something to stir emotions perhaps: how about British artist Francis Bacon's Seated Figure, 1983, limited edition etched run of 99. It's an original classic from a respected figure - in your living room? You bet.
